Product Description A modern classic that continues to prove no color is finer. Young Kelly's mom doesn't understand about red. Sure, the brown mittens are warmer, but the red mitts make better snowballs. And the red boots aren't just for rain; they take bigger steps in any weather. And, yes, a red cup does make a difference... juice just doesn't taste as good in a green one. No doubt about it, red is best. Kathy Stinson's classic tale of one toddler's obstinate color preference has been charming readers for 25 years. With over 275,000 copies in print, Red is Best has steadily marched its way to become a children's book classic. Now a new generation of readers can discover Stinson's insistent young heroine, aptly captured in the simple drawings of Robin Baird Lewis -- each one punctuated by the right dazzle of red. With its plucky charm presented in a redesigned interior, and a special cover commemorating the book's 25th anniversary, the re-release of Red is Best is sure to be a red-letter day.

This book is a must-have for any library, kid or adult. August 24, 2008 Ulyyf (NYC) This book does not attempt to explain preferences in reasonable terms, but in the terms of a child. The red mittens are best because they make better snowballs. The red paint puts singing in her head. The juice just tastes better in the red cup. She likes red because red is best - just as simple as that.
And we can see from the pictures that some of these arguments (like the one about the red cup and red pajamas) she wins and others (like the red rainboots for the snow) she simply doesn't. Pretty realistic.
My nieces and I also talk about why her red mitts "have holes in them" or why she "hardly has any red paint left". I'm sure you can work it out :)
This is a simple, engaging book with simple, uncluttered illustrations. Please, check it out!
awesome book December 28, 2005 I discovered this book in the late 80's when my kindergarten teacher read it to us. I liked it so much that I begged my grandma to buy it for me when we were shopping. I had a fascination with the colour pink back then so I could relate. I would only drink my milk or juice in my pink cup and no other, and only sleep if I had my pink blanket and stuff like that just as in this book with red.
For everyone who's Mom has never quite understood them! December 7, 1998 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was one of my favourites as a child, and now that I've reached the ripe old age of 19, I still read it now and then. This book is brilliantly written from a kid's point of view (i.e. "juice tastes better in the red cup"), so all kids will enjoy it. I thought it was a nice touch that Kelly's mom lost patience about having everything red. That is SO true! And just for the record, my red sweater keeps me warmer, my red mitts make better snowballs, my red shoes make my feet dance, my red socks make my toes wiggle.....
A must-read for any child or child-at-heart! November 14, 1998 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a "feel good" book! I first bought this for my niece, and I loved it so much, I had to get one myself! I think Stinson really hits on the way a child's imagination works. The little girl, Kelly, can do anything when she is wearing her favorite color red. It makes me want to go buy everything red!
