Product Description This boy-wants-dog story with a twist is both snappy and endearing. The little boy's mother won't let him have a dog. Dogs are too messy and too loud. But she says he can have a dragon for a pet&150if he can find one. Enter the coolest&150but naughtiest&150pet ever. The dragon is messier and louder than any dog. And he will not leave. How will the boy ever get a dog now? Wry, stylish illustrations with an appealing retro look perfectly complement the spare, witty text. A comical, engaging story for anyone who's ever wanted a pet!

illustrations put this title over the top November 1, 2008 J. Stout (Portsmouth, Ohio) Just about every kid I've ever known will sit still for at least 15 minutes for a story about a dog or cat. Don't know why, but I use it on the preschoolers when they get antsy and whiney or yelly. The kids seem to like the dragon in this book, "The Best Pet of All" as much as they like the dog who comes to replace him. Non-readers will sit carefully studying each pages illustrations, which do a good job of telling the story. The one particular illustration that the kids keep coming back to is the page with the dragon eating spaghetti in the bathtub. I think we went through a six month period of time where my two year old asked me at least once a week, "Mom, why that monster taking a bath in noodles? Why?" Is that the sign of good art? That it sticks with you? You figure, anything that would hold a two year old's attention that long is worth twenty bucks.
Beautiful, creative, imaginative October 7, 2008 Kristie Finnan (Pennsylvania, USA) This is my favorite illustrator who paints with a retro style that is fun, colorful, imaginative and really just beautiful. The story is a classic about a little boy who wants to get a dog. Finally, after several refusals from mom- he asks if he can have a dragon. Never thinking it would be possible for the boy to find one, she says, "yes". This stinker of a dragon gets in all kinds of mischief until Mom finally agrees to get a dog to scare the dragon away! Mommy's High Heel Shoes
Best Book of All October 22, 2007 Stacie Couvillon (Dallas, Tx USA) I received this book as a baby shower gift and we only recently started reading it to our almost 2 year old son. He loves it (although he probably doesn't understand the story) and we love to read it to him because we appreciate the subtle adult humor! The little boy and the dragon are in cahoots together, trying to convince the mom that they should get a dog. Don't overlook the little boy and dragon exchanging thumbs up near the end of the story - hillarious! You'll love reading it and your child/children will love hearing it!
A favorite January 3, 2007 Simon Bracken (Hermosa Beach, CA United States) We read this book at bedtime with our son. He loves dogs. The book's hero is a boy who really wants a dog. He gets his wish with a little help from a dragon. We're now waiting for our son to find a dragon too, so he can have his dog! He identifies with the hero, he thinks it is him! We were delighted one evening whe he pointed to the boy and said "me".
One of our favorites December 7, 2006 prtlndblnd (Portland, OR USA) A cute, fun to read book which entertains the little ones and even gives the adults a chuckle at the end. Definately a favorite in our home.
