Product Description Now updated with the latest resources--including the best Internet sites--and filled with "excellent yet simple strategies" (Library Journal), this acclaimed guide helps parents make a difference in how their children learn when they go to school. Recommended by the National Center for the Study of Reading. Drawing on her own experience in the education of her two children and her professional experience as an elementary school teacher, Teresa Savage shares her proven techniques on how parents can get their 3- to 6-year-olds ready for school and become active participants in their child's education. Incorporating the latest research on school-readiness, information on the dyslexic child, updated home-schooling resources, and the best sites on the Internet for parents to help their preschoolers develop basic skills, the book's eight clearly written, step-by-step chapters include easy-to-follow lesson plans and assignments to teach basic phonics and numbers. Over 60 phonetic learning exercises, 35 games, homemade flashcards, a series of original cartoon strips, and a teacher's manual for parents encourage a tension-free, fun-filled environment to help children develop skills in motor ability, logic, listening, and comprehension.

A Great Parent's Guide November 24, 2007 Shelli Fry (Central Texas USA) I first found this book in our public library, and I had to buy it. I have been homeschooling my 5 year old for almost a semester, but struggling through math and reading studies with him. He is gifted in some areas and a perfectionist overall. If he feels he cannot achieve his goal sometimes he will not try. This book gave me a simple plan and helped me to work on some of my own skills as his "teacher". Her plan is easy and her goals attainable.
Phonics for the Preschool Crowd January 12, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
When my three-year-old was begging to learn to read, this book was a godsend. (Most teaching materials are, understandably, for children 5+.) The author uses games and activites to teach phonics. Simply having someone tell me a good order in which to introduce each sound and suggest a way to have fun with them was all I needed. For me and my son, this book was a perfect fit.
highly recomended October 27, 1999 B. Durocher (irmo, SC USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book is GREAT, it is easy to read and easy to follow activities and instructions. It helps you teach even very young children through play. All the supplies are in your house or very cheap. I would definitely recommend it
Excellent choice for parents who want to help their children February 20, 1999 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful resource for parents who want to help their kids get an early start on the basic fundamentals. It encourages children to learn through play so they can master these skills without pressure. The book emphasizes the importance of showing love to our children to help them grow mentally. All the assignments can be done with very little money involved for the whole curriculum; most are materials already found in the home. The activities are simple enough for young preschoolers and are fun for both parents and children.
