Refreshing, light summer read August 1, 2008 Reader Views (Austin, Texas) Reviewed by Avni Gupta (age 15) for Reader Views (7/08)
Once I had found out that Gaby Triana had written "The Temptress Four," I was really excited about reading it. Gaby Triana has written one of my favorite books, "Backstage Pass." Once I had started this book, I knew that she had done it again. This book was amazing! It tells the story of four high-school seniors who are best friends and are about to spend their last summer together before college. They are going on a cruise to the Bahamas called the Temptress. On the night before they set off, a fortune teller makes a prediction for them. "Eight days of strife and storms... bonds will be broken... one of you will not come home," is what the fortune teller says.
This scares all four of them. They don't want to lose anybody because they are all best friends. Once on the ship, this prophecy makes them do things that they wouldn't normally do just to make it come true, or seem like it is anyway.
This book was a good read on a boring day. It wasn't too deep or thoughtful, so I could just relax and read. This book is a good read for anyone who just wants to read without having to really put their mind completely into it.
This book is also a good book for someone to read if they want to make sure that they know exactly what not to do on a cruise. All four of them make some key mistakes, and if they had not done that, their vacation would have gone a lot better and would have been a lot more fun. For example, when Killian stands up in the kayak, she tips it over. Once reading this, you will know that you are never to stand up in a kayak, because you can tip it over into alligator infested water.
All in all, "The Temptress Four" by Gaby Triana was fun for me to read. It was a good book, but I feel like it could have been better if the author had written more with the ending. It left me wanting more of a complete ending.
I felt like I was on a cruise July 22, 2008 A. Sylver (Florida) When Fiona and her three best friends board the cruise ship The Temptress for a Caribbean vacation, you'll feel like you're along on the trip. Author Gaby Triana creates an exotic tropical backdrop for her story that perfectly sets the stage for a trip you know won't go as planned. The four girls face what most teens who have just graduated from high school face - worries about the future and heading off to college, fears about their friendships, and trepidation about boyfriends. It's easy to see why Fiona, Alma, Killian and Yoli are fast friends, but even friends have their disagreements. Will their arguments lead to the storm and strife predicted by a fortune teller before they travel? You'll have to read the story to find out. My 12-year-old daughter loved the novel, and picked it for one of her summer reading books.
A Fun Beach Read June 10, 2008 The Book Muncher Best friends Fiona, Alma, Killian, and Yoli have just graduated high school. In celebration, they embark on a Caribbean cruise, and they are determined to have the time of their lives before splitting ways. But a visit to a fortune teller at a carnival forewarns danger for their trip. Alma and Killian dismiss the prediction as a trick to scare them, but Fiona and Yoli can't help but be frightened that one of them will not come home, as foreseen by the fortune teller.
The Temptress Four is a fun story about the interwoven lives of four best friends and they struggle to find out what they want to do with the rest of their lives. It is a question many teens wonder about, as do Fiona, Alma, Killian, and Yoli on their fun cruise. The girls change and grow on the trip as they learn about themselves and what they want in life. The story was not as meaningful as it could've been, but the message did get across to me. The seriousness of the question is offset by the tropical setting and fun opportunities provided by the cruise, which lightened the mood of the story. I would have liked the story to be told in alternate narrations between the four friends, but it was only told from Fiona's point-of-view. This one aspect would've made the novel much better, because I felt that I didn't get to know any of the characters except Fiona.
Despite its few drawbacks, The Temptress Four was a fun read for me, and got me in the mood for summer vacation. I recommend this novel for a light, fun read, possibly as a book you take along to the beach or pool on a sunny day.

Strife and Storms...... May 28, 2008 Heather Weaver (California) "one of you will not come home"
Madame Fortuna predicted the girls would be splitting up sooner than they ever expected, and those words rang true for graduating seniors Fiona, Killian, Alma and Yoli. As they embarked on their 'last hurrah before college/we graduated' caribbean cruise liner, appropriatly named "The Temptress", the Madame's words are never far from thought. In this fun summer page turner, Gaby Triana created the perfect picture of a teenage girl and her 3 best friend trying to find themselves but still remaining intact as best friends. Every girl who reads this surely will be able to relate to one of the key characters,or possibly all, in one way or another. The story follows the girls on their cruise, through the parties, fights with each other, jealous girls, sleazy boys (and the not so sleazy ones!), casinos, and killian's occasional heart-stopping jokes. At the end you feel like these girls could be your best friends, because the personalities are very real and relatable. I read the book front to back in about 3 hours, and I was thoroughly impressed. I definitely would recommend this book for all readers, its an amazingly fun filled, mysterious read. This book really keeps you on your toes all the way to the very ending! I can't wait to see if there is a sequel to the book, I am going crazy in my head wondering what happened to all the girls after the cruise!
Baby Let's Cruise May 27, 2008 Joyce Sweeney (Coral Springs, Florida) This book is a must for your teen summer reading list! Four friends, very different from each other, but united in their group loyalty, plan a summer cruise at the end of high school graduation. The night before they leave, a fortune teller makes some horrific predictions about the trip, including the dire warning that one girl will not make the trip home. There is plenty of romance, heartbreak, break-ups and make-ups and the backdrop is as yummy as a frozen margarita. All predictions come true, but the ending is truly unpredictable and a sheer delight. Readers will fall in love with these characters and their inspiring friendship.
