This is our first Richard Scarry book and we just love it in our house! The illustrations are just darling and the story, well, it's almost like the first Christmas. Mother Cat is getting ready to have a baby and does so on Christmas Eve. Their other children wake up in the morning to find their parents gone and grandma is there to take them to the hospital. They weren't too thrilled to wake up on Christmas morning without a tree or gifts, but when they walk into their mother's hospital room, there's the tree and all their gifts, right along with their new sister. Very, very cute book which we HAVE to read all year long. Highly recommend!

It was one of those books I made my parents read over and over. I think it sends a good message that the true spirit of Christmas isn't getting big, expensive gifts but love toward your friends and family.
